Terrific book for ice cream lovers。 Great recipes, gorgeous color photography and helpful tips。 A great summer cookbook。

Nice chatty cookbook with beautiful photos, but I wasn't wowed by two of the three recipes we tried (ginger ice cream and chocolate truffles)。 The mocha sorbet was terrific though。 This would be a loan, not an own, for me。 Nice chatty cookbook with beautiful photos, but I wasn't wowed by two of the three recipes we tried (ginger ice cream and chocolate truffles)。 The mocha sorbet was terrific though。 This would be a loan, not an own, for me。 。。。more

These are great recipes- we've had a lot of fun experimenting with our new ice cream maker。 The kids think it's hilarious that so many recipes call for alcohol (which we've just skipped, especially if there's none on hand)。 So far, the sour cream strawberry is the clear winner。 Bought this to try to do more non-dairy desserts for our kiddo and the sorbets have been quite good。 These are great recipes- we've had a lot of fun experimenting with our new ice cream maker。 The kids think it's hilarious that so many recipes call for alcohol (which we've just skipped, especially if there's none on hand)。 So far, the sour cream strawberry is the clear winner。 Bought this to try to do more non-dairy desserts for our kiddo and the sorbets have been quite good。 。。。more

This book holds double (maybe even triple) the amount of recipes advertised! With variations and perfect pairings for almost each flavor, you can refer to this book for years without ever repeating yourself。The descriptions are fun to read and the flavors are endlessly inventive。 I already tried the Strawberry Sour Cream ice cream, and it was a smashing success。 I can't wait to dig in even further! What is there to criticize, when every recipe for ice cream, frozen yogurt, mix-ins, sauces, or cones looks absolutely delicious and yet manageable? I usually think less of cookbooks that don’t have a photo for each recipe, but Lebovitz introduces each recipe with a brief, personal story, and I find I’m not missing the photos。

This is the only ice-cream book you need。 It covers all the bases in great detail。 The recipes are fantastic。 There's no going back once you start making homemade ice-cream, nothing quite compared to it。 It's worth the effort。 This is the only ice-cream book you need。 It covers all the bases in great detail。 The recipes are fantastic。 There's no going back once you start making homemade ice-cream, nothing quite compared to it。 It's worth the effort。 。。。more

This is an amazing cookbook for ice cream and sorbet。 I have tried other recipes with great reviews and all of these are better。 The recipes are more delicious, exotic and surprising than I knew was possible for ice cream。 They are easy to follow and to get the best results you really use high quality ingredients。 Additionally, I have learned enough about making ice cream that if there is something I would like to make that isn't in the cookbook (pistachio without any dried fruit or booze) I can This is an amazing cookbook for ice cream and sorbet。 I have tried other recipes with great reviews and all of these are better。 The recipes are more delicious, exotic and surprising than I knew was possible for ice cream。 They are easy to follow and to get the best results you really use high quality ingredients。 Additionally, I have learned enough about making ice cream that if there is something I would like to make that isn't in the cookbook (pistachio without any dried fruit or booze) I can figure it out and the results are good。 You learn how to make a basic custard, infuse flavors and create smooth textures。 If you need a little more joy during a pandemic, this is a worthy place to look。 。。。more

So good that I bought one as a gift too。 The recipes are interesting and they work。 The section on sorbets (which are loved in this house), is substantial and offer new tasty alternatives。

I made the investment to buy this book (after a sturdy recommendation) and it has been an absolute GAME CHANGER。 If you want to make the most amazing homemade ice cream ever - buy this book。 The recipes are a little labor intensive - like you have to steep the flavors (coffee, mint, vanilla) into the cream - but so worth it。 I can’t even tell you how amazed I am by the ice cream I have made。 And I haven’t even begun to explore the sorbets and gelato section of this book。 The ice cream you make with this book is a million times better than anything you can buy commercially and tastes like heaven。 Just follow each recipe exactly and you will be rewarded。 Ten stars if I could。 。。。more

I finally broke down and bought myself the ice cream bowl attachment for my kitchenaid mixer and I knew Lebovitz was the first place to start, as he has a love of ice cream (enough to write a book)。 This does not disappoint。 He's thorough in explaining the overall process at the beginning, then gets straight to recipes。 Each one has suggestions for modifications to make more interesting flavors from the base, and he includes recipes for the add-ins。 I started with rocky road, then branched out a I finally broke down and bought myself the ice cream bowl attachment for my kitchenaid mixer and I knew Lebovitz was the first place to start, as he has a love of ice cream (enough to write a book)。 This does not disappoint。 He's thorough in explaining the overall process at the beginning, then gets straight to recipes。 Each one has suggestions for modifications to make more interesting flavors from the base, and he includes recipes for the add-ins。 I started with rocky road, then branched out and made salted maple pecan (modified from his maple walnut recipe) and coffee bacon (he'd mentioned this on his blog and I went for it)。I'll be returning to this book a lot。 A must have if you're getting into ice cream making。 。。。more

Excellent。 Well-researched and well-written recipes, with lots of classics and lots of fun new flavors to try。 Good explanations of techniques for various types of appliances for freezing ice cream。 Also an excellent section on cones, treats to use as mixins or toppings, etc。 Stays nicely focused on its subject, which is one that isn't covered in most other cookbooks, so it's quite unique。 This is one I got at the library but I'll be purchasing to add to my collection。 Excellent。 Well-researched and well-written recipes, with lots of classics and lots of fun new flavors to try。 Good explanations of techniques for various types of appliances for freezing ice cream。 Also an excellent section on cones, treats to use as mixins or toppings, etc。 Stays nicely focused on its subject, which is one that isn't covered in most other cookbooks, so it's quite unique。 This is one I got at the library but I'll be purchasing to add to my collection。 。。。more

This is an update of Lebovitz' ice cream book from about ten years ago, a book I've checked out of the library nearly every summer since it was published。 Figured it was about time to get my own copy。 I'm happy it is now available as an ebook。 Some of the author's more recent books have become more memoir and blog than cookbooks。 Some people like that, but then a lot of people who read cookbooks don't every really cook。 It doesn't bother then to wade through pages and pages of "let me tell you a This is an update of Lebovitz' ice cream book from about ten years ago, a book I've checked out of the library nearly every summer since it was published。 Figured it was about time to get my own copy。 I'm happy it is now available as an ebook。 Some of the author's more recent books have become more memoir and blog than cookbooks。 Some people like that, but then a lot of people who read cookbooks don't every really cook。 It doesn't bother then to wade through pages and pages of "let me tell you all about my life" stories to find the recipe。 Fortunately, this book retains its former format with short intros that actually pertain to the recipe, but are no more than half a page long followed by a clearly laid out and concise recipe。 There are some attractive new pictures, although not for every recipe。 And that's as it should be in this case。 I doubt there are many people who don't know what ice cream looks like, so no point in substantially adding to the cost of the book or heft (or file size for ebooks) of every flavor。 In the ebook version, navigation worked smoothly, and the index is fully linked to each recipe。 Being Lebovitz with his well-known affection for chocolate, there are more recipes containing chocolate than you could ever hope to make, but there are also plenty of options those of us who prefer fruit and nut flavors。 It appears he has added a dozen or so new recipes, but I'm happy to see some old favorites are still there。 。。。more
